When you think about it, scuba diving is the perfect pandemic sport:
✅ Small groups only
✅ Brief period on a speeding boat in the open air
✅ Majority of the time spent underwater
.
If you'll permit me to be a teensy weensy bit hyperbolic, I'll also add that, by nature scuba divers are kinda-sorta conditioned to "act right" in a pandemic:
👍🏾 We are a people long accustomed to wearing masks 🤿
👍🏾 With second stage regulators stuffed in our mouths on every dive, a little scrap of fabric is no bother at all
👍🏾 We're generally big on protocols and safety because there's zero room for error in scuba.
.
NB: I'm not trying to stir anything up or call anyone out. I know sacrifices need to be made and regardless of personal feelings the restrictions must be respected.
.
I'm just a girl, thinking about something she loves, and wondering what is to be achieved by banning it?
.
Anyway, here's hoping this rollback doesn't extend beyond the 21 days. Mama needs a sea bath and some deep sea encounters.

Here's to making that happen in May!

Yes, it's bummy that the beaches are closed - trust me, I feel your pain. But let's not make it a death sentence on vacations altogether because TOBAGO IS STILL OPEN!
.
We may not be able to sink our toes into the sand or take a dip in the ocean but we can still soak in it's beauty from a distance.
.
Usually, this would be done by making a few strategic stops on my way to a particular beach, but in the absence of beach hopping, I'm recommend we all take up view chasing. That being said, I've put together a road trip itinerary featuring some of Tobago's most beautiful sea views:
✅ Mt. Dillon lookout
✅ Castara Bay
✅ Englishman's Bay
✅ Parlatuvier Bay
✅ Indian Bay
✅ Batteaux Bay
✅ Fort Campbelton
✅ Flagstaff Hill

For those who need to rent a vehicle, @tobagoautorentals has been my go-to vendor for the last 5 years. Scores of rentals later and I have never once been disappointed 👌🏾

So don't cancel your Bago escape due to closed coastlines, just rearrange your plans a bit to make the most of the island's MANY land-based diversions.

There is no location on the island more iconic and symbolic of the destination than this thatched roof hut and jetty at @pigeonpointtobago.
.
It's always the perfect backdrop for photos, but on days like this one, when the weather decided to show off, serving up the bluest skies and seas...it's extra special.
.
With the rollback it'll be a hot minute before I'm reunited with this view but until then, here's hoping everyone has a great, safe weekend, even if it's beach free!

So...beaches be closed...again. Not fun.

But, just because the coastline is off limits doesn't mean you can't still enjoy your Tobago staycation.
.
Having changed hands among European powers some 33 times, the island has a rich history and scores of historical sites that serve as stark reminders of our dark colonial past. In an ironic twist, many of them - like the waterwheel - also make beautiful backdrops for photo ops.
.
It's always a delicate balance when visiting spots like these...but I think it's fair to say we can take in a good history lesson and appreciate the beauty of the ruins at the same time.
.
So, if the rollback caught you in Bago, or you have a trip booked in the next three weeks, remember that there's more to this beautiful island than sea and sand. Ditch your swimsuits for some land-based sites and learn about the island's checkered past instead. You won't be disappointed!

For real though, I wouldn't mind being back in Bago on Son Son's boat soaking up some sun as we cruise to Pirate's Bay.

Clear water. Clear kayak. Endless blue skies. Need I say more?
.
Fact: I'm the least fit person you're likely to meet on this planet so if I endorse an activity, trust that it's relatively pain free.
.
While paddling that require a certain amount of strength, one of the best things about kayaking in this spot is that you can legit spend most of your hour bobbing about the water. NB: occasional rowing is required to ensure you stay in the safe zone.
.
Beyond that, you're perfectly free to just float along happily soaking up the sun, snapping a few pics, and basking in the beautiful shoreline.
.
Plus, if you ask nicely they'll take some time to snap a few pics for you 👌🏾
.

Blue sky...green trees...empty beach...and a shadow casting just enough shade to keep the sand cool...what more does a girl need?

I'm always amazed at how secluded Englishman's Bay remains despite being so well know and well loved.
.
Could be that the drive is too much for the majority of visitors based in the west - those winding roads can he harsh. Or it might be that the water can be a bit unpredictable at times. Who knows?
.
Whatever the reason, you won't hear me complaining because I love having it almost all to myself every single time.
.
With a newly renovated restaurant serving up beachfront views, two options for souvenir shopping, an Instagrammable hut with swings, and a million scenes like this one... Englishman's Bay really is a great all-day beach for anyone who doesn't like crowds, doesn't need frills and honestly just wants to exist in peace and quiet.
.
If that sounds like your kind of vibe, make the drive. I promise you it'll be worth it.

If you're looking for a top 5 beach in Tobago, Cotton Bay is IT!!!! We're talking clear, calm water, tons of gorgeous backdrops for pics, and access isn't easy so it's basically always empty.
.
Don't judge me, but I honeslty don't like talking about it because I'm prettified that one day I'll show up and it'll be packed with people 🤦🏿‍♀️ But so far, so good.
.
I was actually worried that might be the case last Saturday as people tried to dodge the crowds but nope, when we got there, there were just a couple boats making a pit stop, as well as one group on the sand...and after the boats left no one new showed up for the rest of the day. Bliss!
.
Also can we just have a moment for all the pretty pastel colors in the freshly painted interior of the boat that brought us over? 😍
